Green Environmental Design

6th April

Becoming environmentally friendly is an important topic for businesses, consumers, family, everybody. Green environmental design is an important concept for everyone to embrace and appreciate. If we continue to ignore the waste and pollution that we dump into our environment every day, we will have fewer resources to use later. Not only that, but our beautiful planet will end up not so beautiful.

One way to help the environment is through what’s called green environmental design. Also referred to as sustainable design, it takes into account the ecological, economical, social, and ethical aspects of a design. The goal is to provide buildings and designs that are better for the environment, healthier for people, and conserve resources, both in building and in use. Environmental design creates buildings that are better for the environment and uses materials that will not harm people or the planet.

There are several ways to accomplish green environmental design, or to go green. The easiest and cheapest way is to reuse materials. This can be accomplished by repurposing old materials for new things. For instance, wood from old windows and doors can be reused as accent pieces in bedrooms and other rooms. Decorating trends have really created great pieces to reuse a variety of old items. Not only that, but reusing materials from these items can save money and resources. For instance, home construction materials at demolition sites can be reused for wood to build a tree house or garden patio. Bricks and windows can be reused for chimneys, backyard grills, and garden walls. Old glass bottles can double as decorative pieces or even contemporary garden pots. There are numerous ways to reuse materials; the only limitation is the imagination.

Another important concept of eco-friendly design is to purchase materials that are free of toxins. We’ve all heard of the dangers of lead paint, but did you know that there are also dangerous chemicals in woods, carpet, upholstery, and furniture. Formaldehyde, as well as other toxic substances, can be found in a variety of press wood products such as cabinets and furniture. Instead choose solid wood options when even possible. For carpets and other textiles, use cotton and natural fiber products. Synthetic fibers can contain pesticides and toxic chemical cleaners. Toxic chemicals can be found in everything from carpeting to window treatments, bedding, and even furniture like couches and beds. Make sure all products are labeled free of these toxins.

Conserving energy is another way to incorporate environmental design into homes and offices. Upgrading products to newer energy star models when possible can help save fuel and other natural resources. Replacing just one product at a time such as dishwashers, refrigerators, copiers, and printers is healthier for the environment and can save you money on monthly bills. And some appliances also offer tax deductions and other incentives.

Green design is fairly simple to follow. Even small things like low flow toilets and faucets and substituting bamboo flooring and using water based paints can only have a positive effect on the environment. The best part is that by following greener living is not only healthier for everyone, but it also saves money.

Buy that new hot whatever it is!

10th January

Imagine that you go to the electronic store and you check out that new iPod. You’ve been eyeing it for weeks and after all the money that you’ve been saving you have almost enough. You have money in your pocket, which would cover the amount you’re missing, for things you need from the store. You think about that article you read online about saving money by reusing stuff around your house. In this article you will do just that. You will learn the importance of reusing items and how reusing an item will save you money.

The first things we will talk about are plastic bags. We live in a spoiled country, America. Many countries make people actually buy their bags in the supermarket to pack their shopping in. If we had that same law we would always be making sure that we never overspend at the store again. The plastic bags we get at the supermarket can be used for various hobbies. Even if it is as simple as arts and crafts you can use the plastic bags to store things in. Also, whenever you’re traveling or moving to a different location those bags will help pack the knickknacks and dishes so they won’t break.

Another way to save money is to reuse your printer paper also read our refill toner review to see how easy it is to refill cartridges . It may take some time and more computer knowledge than the average bear but most people can be taught on how to print in duplex. The printer pages do have two sides after all. If you need to take notes in a lecture, use both sides of the paper. It will save you money and you’ll make less trips to the office store for more paper. Imagine the cost savings that you can receive just by reusing your printer paper. Even if it’s for a fax machine, rather than throwing out the copies, turn them over and refill the fax machine.

Finally, here is the way to turn your unused items into money. As popular as it may be many people don’t realize that most recycling centers will buy your bottles and cans from you. Which means you can actually turn your plastic bottles into cold hard cash. Understand that you’ll only make 5 cents off of each bottle or $1 a pound. Just remember, “a penny saved is a penny earned.” Remembering that phrase and receiving that $10 for 15 lbs of plastic bottles will make you smile. It can save you money by doing this, rather than spending $10 on more items you’re technically getting it for free.

In conclusion, if you’re wanting to make a quick buck than save your bottles. Find out where your local recycling plant is and take your empty soda bottles and soda cans there. If it’s recycle chances are they’ll buy it off of you by the pound. A little hint, crush your bottles and cans to fit more in your bag, it’s a matter of $5-15. Hopefully after reading this article you now have a better understanding that it is very possible to make money by recycling and reusing the items you use on a daily basis.

On Refilling HP Laser Cartridges and Printer software

23rd September

Hewlett Packard are renowned for the quailty of their products, from computers, laptops to the wide range of printers an peripherals they are one of the leading manufactirers in all these areas. They have a popular brand name and arguably a name you can trust especially in the areas of printers and printing technology.

If you into any office in the world there’s a very good chance that you’ll find a Hewlett Packard laser printer. The name HP Laserjet is now synonymous with a good quality office laser printer.

There are some problems with the HP printers that I have found in my experience though. I have worked in the IT industry all my adult life and would heartily recommend most of HPs office based printers, BUT the quality of the software that drives some of their home office, all-in-one based printers can be variable.

Let’s understand that the majority of people just want to print, scan or fax with their printers. Our computers are already overloaded with huge bloated software applications that provide us with functionality we’ll likely never know existed never mind need. HP all-in-one printers are notorious for this – endless navigators, easy to manage printer consoles and software to check, print and fax.

These programs sit in our task bar, monitoring, consuming our PCs memory and frequently locking, or updating themselves across the internet. I don’t know about anyone else but mostly I just want the printer, scanner and fax drivers. Anything else can be loaded when I require by me starting the program, HP navigator frankly you can keep it.

Well after that minor rant, I’ll move onto the one that HP are not alone in. All the printer manufacturers are culpable of this crime, and it is a crime in the context of the environment.

The huge plastic, advanced toner cartridges which we must either dispose of, or send back to recycle after one use is a huge waste of resources. Look at an empty toner carrtidge and I defy you to believe that this cartridge is useless after printing a few hundred pieces of paper.

Why must Laser Toner Cartridges be replaced after on use?

Well the answer to this is simple. The reason we must only use a laser toner cartridge once is because this is the model that produces the maximum profit margin for companies like Hewlett Packard.

HP Laser cartridge

Can you honestly believe that the toner cartridge isn’t capable of being used many, many more times if it was simply filled up with ink. Welll they always used to be capable but apparently technology seems to have gone backward now as they now must be recycled or re-manufactured

Shame on you alll printer companies, quit the phony eco-recycling schemes and give us back ordinary refillable toner cartridges to help save the environment. If not we will refill them ourselves anyway !!!

Just remember that every new cartridge that is produced takes between 1 and 2 litres of oil, millions of these are used all over the world. The cost to the environment is massive and it’s something the printer companies could do something about if they put aside the profit motive for a moment.
